LEGAL ADVANTAGES IN SPAIN

Since 2005, the Spanish legislation recognises the right for homosexual couples to get married. From that year on, lesbian couples are given similar rights than those for heterosexual couples, on which concerns to assisted  reproduction.

By means of RECIPROCAL IVF (ROPA METHOD), both intended-mothers are feeling really engaged and actively participating in the pregnancy process. One woman is providing her oocytes and the other one will be carrying the embryo.  On top of that,  both women will be enjoying the same legal rights and obligations, according to Spanish Assisted Reproduction Law # 14/2006, i.e. both mothers will be parents of the newborn by means of Assisted Reproduction Techniques.

The donor woman will undergo a controlled ovarian stimulation ovarian stimulation treatment during 10 days after her period. It requires then a subcutaneal hormonal injectable drug, growing the number of oocytes in her ovaries. When there's a suitable response, an egg retrival under sedation will be scheduled to extract oocytes throughout the vagina by means of a quick and painless process. 

Oocytes are checked in the Lab and are micro-injected by a donor espermatozoos to create embryos. 

Her couple, who will be receiving those embryos, will be preparing her endometrium for that transfer. That is easy as it just requires an intramuscular injection, estrogen pills and progesterone. Before proceeding for the mentioned retrival, it will be checked by ultrasounds that the womb is suitable to receive those embryos. Embryos transfer is an easy process and do not require sedation. That day both intended-mothers need to decide whether it'll be transferred 1 or 2 embryos.
